Director Jean-Luc Godard is to receive an honorary Oscar in a special ceremony on November 13th. However, some have called the Academy’s choice into question, due to Godard’s supposed anti-semitism. Richard Brody, Godard biographer and New Yorker staffer has this to say:
“I’m not a member of the academy; for the record, I am Jewish; and I volunteer—I’d consider it a privilege to hand Godard or his representative an award that is a mere slender symbol of what we all, in the world of the cinema, owe him, and that is so long overdue.”
